Oh crap. I knew it…you know, but I didn’t KNOW it…ya know?
Via Ernie’s 3-Pancakes.
A Bush aid, in an interview with Ron Suskind, dismissively described Bush critics like Suskin as “The reality based community”.
See, my mistake was to think that they (The alliance of Bob Jones and Neo Conservatives) didn’t know that they were unaware of reality. I thought that they thought that they knew what reality was…and were merely incapable of recognizing it due to willful ignorance and blindness.
THAT condition is something that repeated clue-by-fours to the side of the head have just slightly less than a snow-balls chance in hell of curing.
What we have is something very different. We had a group of people who KNOW their ideas don’t reflect reality…and believe that their thoughts and beliefs can be harnessed to create a new reality...
Oh shit, are we in trouble.
You know, as in your Aunt Agnes…the one with big buggy eyes and all the flowing cotton skirts and houseful of cats and the mystical prisms in every room that align her chakras, and who sleeps in a pyramid every night and believes that aliens are kidnapping and probing people so they can help them evolve into pure energy?
She’s running the country.
Now, I know that there’s the whole mind-over-matter thing. I acknowledge that. Sometimes, with a positive attitude, proper motivation, and heroic effort you can achieve the “impossible”…little secret here…IT’S HYPERBOLE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!
If you perceive something as being impossible (like winning the Tour de France seven times in a row), but it’s not really impossible…then if you force yourself to change your thinking…it becomes possible. Still not likely, but possible. In other words, you exercised FAITH to help you overcome FALSE BELIEFS in order to attain a closer realationship with reality...as demonstrated by the fact that you exceeded the limits of what you thought you could do. You did not change reality. You changed your perception of reality.
But if something really IS impossible (like, for instance, willing full-grown spider monkeys to fly out of my left ear)…no amount of positive thinking will make it possible.
I understand using faith as a tool to reconcile yourself to a reality you don't fully understand...but these people think faith is a tool to over-write a reality you don't approve of...
I’ll just be over here...in my happy place…trying not to cry...
