I think we’re going to need some Democratic Poll watchers…to keep an eye on the Republican Poll watchers. (link to an article discussing stratagy to use “poll watchers“ to supress votes in key states)
Hmmm…something to think about. I think I’ll mention that the next time the DNC calls me looking for volunteers.
But we can all make sure that we get to vote on Nov. 2nd if we do some very simple things:
- Make sure your “papers” are in order. Bring as many official picture ID’s as you have with you name, address, picture on them as you have. Drivers license, passport; you name it.
- Make sure you go to the correct precinct. Even if you are in a state that lets you vote in precincts other than where you are registered…just go to the one where you are registered.
- Make sure you are registered in the precinct where you live, and make sure that the information on your forms of ID are up-to-date and correct.
- Vote early (not often…just early.) There is at least on state that has issued a public statement that they will not print any more ballots than they did last year, despite the rise in voter registration.
- If you are in an area that has a significant concentration of one kind of partisan, make sure to try to vote early, as if there are vote suppression problems in your area, or egregious barriers to voting, you will have time to resolve them before the polls close.
- Allow plenty of time for voting, in case there are delays due to lots of challenges to voters. If you have to wait a long time, make sure that you do. This is too important to walk away from.
- Register as soon as possible. If you are not registered to vote, don’t wait until the day of the election…even if you live in a state that has same-day registration. There may be a huge number of people waiting until the last moment, and it might bog down the process.
If anybody else has any further information or suggestions, let me know, and I will add them.
