Regarding Paula's link; Maybe the author has read 'Against the Gods: The Remarkable Story of Risk'

It builds from the premise that record-keeping and basic statistical analysis allowed civilizations to predict the timing of seasonal flooding and the frequency of things like storms and droughts, thus lessening the fear of vengeful gods and evil spirits. As the book develops into the history of risk management and capital markets it gets exceedingly dry, but the first part of the book which deals with the cultural effects of not viewing every single event as an act of god made for some rather compelling reading.

* Sorry if this appears more than once but I didn't see it come up in the comments so I removed the link to the book on Amazon and reposted.

He seems dead serious. Whether he's for real or not depends on how stretchy your concept of reality is, I suppose. I've known people who were a lot less kooky who have refused to insure their household goods because it was a faith issue for them. Me, I'm waiting for the guy who markets Rapture Insurance. Oh, and by the way, typing "Jesus bling" into your search engine turns up some really interesting stuff on ebay.

I don't think there's anything very Christian about those folks; they're just another morph of Spectrum Direct aka American Life Direct, an insurance company that sends spam advertising half a dozen different domains. The ChristianLifeShopDirect spam that I received referenced a page on one of their sites, which was filled up with the usual Christian catchphrases. If you went to the root page of the site, however, it just called itself LifeShopDirect, and there was no Christianity mentioned.

More entertaining still was another spam sent out by the same spammer - a bulkmailer-for-hire - that offered "Christian ringtones". Again, the Christian ringtones site was just one of a farm of similar ringtones sites advertised by the spammer and backed by a company called Adteractive which I am beginning to suspect is intricately connected to this particular spammer.
