Via Jason Bock’s blog (where I go to keep up on the latest in ID silliness):

This article which says what I think better than I ever have.

And this entry which just goes to show how merciless, callous, inhuman and violent are we,  the people who do not have God on our side.  But, hell is it funny.  I think that scientist-man should perform the witch-ducking experiment on Intelligent Design-guy next.  You know, the one where you drown the person on trial, and if the Devil saves them from drowning, you burn them at the stake?  If ID guy drowns, we’ll all convert to Evangelical Fundamentalism.  Really, we promise…swear on a stack of Bibles.

And this entry, which I read with a warm heart, as it would allow some of my neo-pagan friends to get cushy education jobs with summers off.  After all, science is science is science…and if astrology is just as valid a science as Intelligent Design and The Theory of Natural Selection…it should be taught in school as well.

And let’s not forget Pastafarianism.  We should teach that too.  (BTW, I get a huge chuckle every time I look at the back of my van and see my Flying Spaghetti Monster fish decal.  I highly recommend getting one.  It’s good for your soul.)

I like the critisism of the Theory of Evolution. And I like any competing ideas even if a bit wacko. Many things in physics where once wacko, ya know. And some wacko type thinking have spawned todays some of todays most compelling science (Freud, for all his faults, finally got things of the mind out of the relm of religion and philosphy into actual scientific study.)

The thing that bothers me, and shows they have no real footing, is that the initial push is at the younger minds. Why target them?

If they really had something then they would do as all scientests do and collect/analyse emperical data then publish findings. Expecting instant recognition is not going to happen in the scientific community. If their theory has any thing to add, however, it will be accepted eventually. And at that time it will then be taught in the class rooms of primary education throughout the country.

They do not do this because, I believe, they know, deep down, that this isn't science and it cannot ever be the basis of anything that approaches science.

What it is is huxterism on the level of the diet industry. The kind where they take one study and base an entire product on it. That study is one very thin slice of the overall scientific picture. But the ones they are selling to know nothing of the larger picture so they can grasp on to that one study as if it where the answer to all their questions. needs and desires.

The only thing Intellegent Design does show is that there is alot that science cannot explain. Well duh. If science could explain everything there would be no need for science.

And that is what really irks me about ID. They take a basic strength of science (the fact that it open admits to not understanding everything and even embraces that unknown) and then markets its own product by saying "we know everything". ID IS marketing.

But at the same time I am irked by some of those that are against teaching the holes in the Theory of Evolution. Good sience dictates that those holes be displayed and examined, closely. Good science dictates that the Theory of Evolution thrown out if another theory can demonstrate it is better at describing what is observed and better predict what happens.

Does this leave open the door for the Huxters of ID and others to step through? Yes but so what. Those that would enter those doors would simply find another door, or window or would even knock a hole in a wall to get into thier house of holy.
