"Real meaning of life...stuff" - Daniel Jackson

Apparently, there is a rolicking good debate going on over at Neil's place about what the Bible says about homosexuality.

I don't know how there possibly could be, since the Bible clearly says that Homosexuals are an abomination to God, and should be put to death.

The Bible is very very clear on this, and there's really not a lot of wiggleroom if you have to interpret everything the Bible says literally and as though it comes directly from the mouth of God himself.

To me, it's just one more reason to not believe that the Bible is the word of God, and one more reason I'm not a Christian anymore.  It became a choice between believing God, or worshiping the Bible for me.  If the universe is the creation of God, and the bible is the creation of men, I'm going to trust in the dictates of natural law above human invention.  If the universe is not the creation of God, then the Bible is equally useless.

Still, if you are interested in watching different flavors of Christians thrash each other out over whose version of mental gymnastics puts the most accurate spin on what that load of schitzoid time-and-translation-and-Nicean-council-selection-ginsued-word-salad most reflects the mind of God, be Neil's guest.

My, they are on a roll, aren't they? No need for us to stick our noses in to it.

I have to agree with you on the wiggleroom. There really isn't anywhere to go if you assume the Bible to be the unerring word of God. But then unerring would kind of require the Bible to internally consistant. Something it doesn't do a good job with.

Reality isn't it's strong point either. Mustard seeds anyone? Even though they try to wiggle out of that one too. http://www.christiananswers.net/q-aiia/mustardseed.html

"Some appear to believe in Dalmatian Theology, the false notion that the Bible is only inspired in spots and that they are inspired to spot the spots."

It thought that is what nearly all American christians believe. After all, none appear to be calling for the stoning of adulterers among other clear passages in the Bible. It does give one pause as to whether the Westboro Baptist Church members are correct when they claim to be the only true followers of the Bible.

Can't help myself.

"Paul explains in Romans 1 that homosexuality is a condition that becomes present when God gives over a nation for ungodly attitudes and practices."

Did I read the above correct? so, the cause of homosexuality is an ungodly nation? When the nation has ungodly practices then people become homosexuals but prior to the nation becoming ungodly there are no homosexuals?? which ungodly attitudes and practices lead to homosexuality from non-homosexuals? Gambling? belief in freedom? dancing? are any of us safe? and, I wonder, where do homosexual penguins come from?

A friend of mine just called and commented that would be beastiality. Beastiality is wrong, thus all animals should be killed. and eaten. i am awash in silly arguments.

I think that far, far, too many unfortunate incidences in history have been over who the "real" Christians are. Let alone adding any other religions to the mix.

Seems that the best thing people can do is worry less about whether someone else is a "real" spiritual person and worry more about whether they themsleves fit that description.

Oh, ye of little feathers,

The LORD [is] my pretext, I shall not integrate.
He maketh me condemn those who lie in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the call girls.
He restoreth my slavery:
He leadeth me over the backs of righteous people while proclaiming his name.
Yea, though I send others to walk through the desert of death,
I will condemn all as evil: for thou [art] my excuse; my rod and my staff will I weld in your name.
Thou preparest a stock option for me in the presence of those I have conquered:
thou anointest my bank account with oil; my checkbook runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy will be used as excuses by me all the days of my life:
and I will dwell in the McMansion of the LORD for ever.

Ben,

ROTFL. Your original work, or one you found?

I may need to promote that to it's own posting, and want to credit it properly.

Mine.

I wanted to think of something to answer a small penguin with; thus came the start with "ye of 'little' feathers".

The rest just rolled out.

Teresa thanks for your comments on our blog. I would encourage you to read the Bible in the sense the authors intended and not in the fundamentalist-literalist style common to fundy-Christians and fundy-atheists alike. You might be surprised at what you find.
