I think that all of the Minnesota politicians from both parties should get together in the same place and denounce the people who vandalized the homes of six Minnesota politicians.

There is no reason to suspect that anyone from either party was the culprit, since representatives from both parties were attacked.  Also, political moderates like Amy Klobuchar and Jim Ramstad were hit in addition to more divisive figures like Michelle Bachmann and Keith Ellison.

And while they are at it they can also decry the vandalizm to the Obama and Franken campaign headquarters.  (I haven't heard of anything happening to the McCain headquarters here, will someone let me know if they have heard anything?)

They should then all step forward and personally vow to keep their rhetoric to the issues, and to their opponents positions on the issues.  They should vow to avoid character assassination and dehumanizing rhetoric.

And I hope the police catch these maniacs who did this. There is no place in Minnesota for acts of political terroristic threat in the dark of night.

There is no place ANYWHERE for this. If you read the article about this in the Star Tribune today, check out the comments. The number of people accusing nasty, evil, fascist liberals of perpetrating this is amazing.

Geekgoddess,

Of course, "the liberals" did it. Ya know, there's no reason to suspect the right above the left in this, or the left above the right, except that we know there are wacky right-wing groups out there who feel that both parties have abandoned God's plan for this country.

Fred Phelps and his crowd would do exactly this sort of thing, and I'm sure that there is some anti-government lefty out there who would be capable of it too...so I guess it's a possibility, but it seems more likely that it is what it appears to be. Otherwise, why do it? It is a lot of trouble to go to and risk to take just to send a message that would be meaningless if a lefty did it, but would have great meaning if a righty did it.

We're talking provoking a federal investigation of terroristic threat. Federal charges federal penalties. It seems more likely that a right-wing-nut-bag looking for martyrdom would did it rather than a lefty who would only make the right-wing-nut-bags look bad. For the theoretical lefty culprit, there just isnt any comparison between the risk and the benefit...which is almost non-exsistant.

But whoever they are...that (accusing the party opposite us) is EXACTLY the sort of thing we should NOT be doing:

1) There is NO evidence that we have been given to know that would indicate one way or another. Being partizan about it at this point is silly. Concocting bizzare theories that it is something more complicated than it at first appears in a vacuum of information is blazingly stupid.

2) Our representatives have been attacked. In a cowardly, despicable way that is intended to cause them to fear US...the public they serve. In other words, right or left; they are separating us from our representatives. through fear. Very bad for Democracy. Screw right or left. This isn't about right or left at this point it is about and attack on the basic priciple of the functioning and survival of our government system.

3) Whether right or left, if caught they will be subjected to the same system of justice, which doesn't care who they are or why they did such things, only that that such things are unacceptable and need to be punished...and it will be decided by people who are going to be asked, just for a second, to put aside their political preferances and make a judgement about behavior and evidence...

I think you should make that your new tag line. :-)

In the news article, it said that "Psalms 2" was part of the graffiti. This leads me to think religious-nut-job, of the various nut-jobs possible. Below is the second book of Psalms from NetBible.org:

Why do the nations rebel? Why are the countries devising plots that will fail? The kings of the earth form a united front; the rulers collaborate against the Lord and his anointed king. They say, “Let’s tear off the shackles they’ve put on us! Let’s free ourselves from their ropes!” The one enthroned in heaven laughs in disgust; the Lord taunts them. Then he angrily speaks to them and terrifies them in his rage, saying,
“I myself have installed my king on Zion, my holy hill.” The king says, “I will announce the Lord’s decree. He said to me:‘You are my son! This very day I have become your father! Ask me, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the ends of the earth as your personal property. You will break them with an iron scepter; you will smash them like a potter’s jar!’” So now, you kings, do what is wise; you rulers of the earth, submit to correction! Serve the Lord in fear! Repent in terror! Give sincere homage! Otherwise he will be angry, and you will die because of your behavior, when his anger quickly ignites. How blessed are all who take shelter in him!

Karen, my point exactly. I suppose it's possible that some liberal wanted to put the Psalms Chapter two citation on there to make it LOOk like it was aright-wing nut-job...but it seems to be more realistic that it was actually a right-wing nut-job, and the righties getting all burned up about it and claiming that it is liberals that did it is just plain obvious mental gymnastics. There's no rational reason to assume that is the case.

If I was any one of the vandalized politicians, knowing that someone who prescribed to this belief was just a few feet away from my family in the middle of the night... I'd be livid and frightened. It can't be easy to be out doing your job or campaigning when you're afraid that someone like that is stalking your home.

Once again, the terrorists have won.
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself....oh wait, that's liberal garbage......
