Folding, spindeling, and mutilating lauguage for fun since Aug, 2004

So today I went and waited in line to get signatures.  I don't usually do that, 'cause it just isn't my thing.

I know that Bob would like a signed photo of Nathan Fillion, and my kids would like to get a picture of Alan Tudik.

So I stood in line and when I got to Nathan Fillion, he looked at the slip of paper which told him who to personalize it.  He asked "Where's Bob?"

I said:  "He's in Minneapolis Minnesota."

Nathan said "Why isn't BOB here?"

I said "He's got stuff to do."

Nathan:  "On a Sunday?"

Suffice to say that Nathan kept asking questions 'til he basically had a summary of Bob's life story as far as I know it.  He wishes you well, Bob.  And there's a nice signed photo of Nathan on it's way home to you.

I told Alan Tudic the story of how Grasshopper needed to take a few minutes alone in his room to collect himself after viewing Serenity.  He was really gracious and sweet.

I expected that they would be pleasant and polite but efficient and keep the line moving.  I never expected them to take extra time to draw someone out and have a real converseation.

It was nice.

Shiny! Sosososo shiny!!! Thanks Trees. I know just where to put it too. I figure what better place to proudly display a photo of Captain Mal than in the same frame as my Serenity poster. Hmmm. This means that I will have two shrines in one. One shrine to Firefly and also to "Cool stuff Trees has given me cause Trees is cool and stuff"

Thanks hon!

Hehehe Captain Mal knows who I am. Of course now I need to go to one of his appearances and introduce myself

You are welcome...but I SHOULD point out to you that I was at the head of a Loooong line of people that very likely numbered in the thousands by the end of the four days.

I did not get special treatment from Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudik.

They treated EVERYONE just like least, everyone that I heard speak of them.

So, very likely, your story will blend in with thousands of others to be the story of fandome in general...which in and of itself is kind of cool.

Also, they were sitting next to Sean Austin of "Samwise" fame, and James Marsters was just down the line...but I was out of money. :-(

Also...Geaorge Takei walked right in front of me as I was waiting for some friends outside the hotel Starbucks. I could have reached out and touched him. (No, of course I didn't. but before I knew it I had done this stupid little fan-girl wave, that luckily I stopped before it went above table height, and luckily the only people who saw it were Rocky and one of the friends sitting right next to me, although that was bad enough because he wouldnt let me forget about it all weekend.

(Insert dorky laughter and one-fingered glasses push here)

Oh. and I attended a pannel with Walter Koenig, and got the opportunity to say "thank you" afterwards, which was really swell.

I also saw the Bad Astronomer, and kept my inner fan-girl under control there as well. Very proud of myself.

Ok,the more I read the more I know I need to get a good paying job and start saving every penny I can. I SOOOOO need to be at DragonCon 2009 . WOW. And sure, Nathan probably won't remember the story but it's still cool and I'm still tempted to show up at one of his appearances with copies of Star Munchkin and The Good The Bad and THe Munchkin and say "You know, these games are pretty sweet individually but if you combine them you get a pretty fair aproximation of a Firefly parody card game. Enjoy!" I figure what the heck, a very reliable source assures me he's a nice guy and he's given me and mine plenty of hours of happiness with his work and it's not like the actually cost me any money. So why not? Oh and big kudos on not geeking out over Mr Sulu. I actually chased David Weber down the hall at this years CONvergence when I realized Em and I had been sharing an elevator with him. He was very gracious about it, chatted with us and even posed for a pic with Em. Can't say I wouldn't have excused myself when Mr Takei came by just to go over and shake his hand.

BTW I start work next Wednessday. Free for lunch next either this Friday or next Mon or Tues?
