Sky High

We went to see Sky High the other day.  My first comment is:

“How did we get almost all the way through the summer before finally getting a decent summer movie?”

Summer movies are supposed to be light romps, peppered with a little wry humanity.  They're supposed to be spirited family fare with just a little mischief and heart-warming character growth without heavy-handed moralizing.

Sky High is my 2005 summer movie.  It’s adorable, fun, and puts a fresh face on a number of classic, easily recognized story lines.

The acting is good, despite the fact that nobody was exactly stretched to the breaking point.  It’s not that kind of movie.

It’s just a fun, cute, family summer movie.

I can't say that I've seen this one - and it's safe to say I won't while it's in the theatre, but I might put it on Netflix.

But we've had several good movies this summer. "Charlie and the Chocolate" factory for example. Maybe not 'light' compared to this, but I thought it was excellent.

And while exactly the opposite of 'a light romp', I thought the recent Batman movie was very good.

I've heard people say 'Sky High' is *the* superhero movie of the summer. I haven't seen it yet, but they caught me with the high school/Dexter Riley/whenever photo of Kurt Russell in the trailer. I need to see this film.

We took the kids to "Sky High" today as a thank you for working on "PFD". Loved it! I'm always jazzed to find a good family movie that we can all enjoy.

Didja notice the extensive use of covers of 80's music?
