"Real meaning of life...stuff" - Daniel Jackson

Ben at EclecticsAnonymous recently blogged about Daniel Jackson, and implied that my fan-girl mental frolics might be slightly less than purely cerebral.

Balderdash I say! (If you will excuse my language).

Nerdy less-than-physically-perfect men have been my downfall since I was very young.

My friend Barb will recall a certain spindly, large-nosed, acne-plagued actor from our highschool that nearly came between us as friends (I saw him FIRST!)  I was in the pit orchestra, he was playing “Marryin’ Sam”  in Lil’ Abner.  I learned all of his lines before HE did.

Certain friends still occasionally mock me for what they only assume must be my mental-illness induced view of Jeff Goldblum (Here's a better picture).  What can I say?  I think he's cute, and it's because of his quirky, nerdy persona.  (In my defense, I never saw The Fly…from what I hear, that would have short-circuited the Jeff Goldblum thing right out of the gate).

And come on, Jon Stewart, while he has gotten awards for sexiness, is not exactly a smoldering tower of cut –out masculinity.  Yet I find him incredibly sexy.

Sorry Ben, it’s the brains, baby.

But I’m not ashamed to admit it...those new biceps Michael Shanks was suddenly sporting a few seasons into the show didn’t take any air out of the tires.  And there's no denying that without the nerding-up he gets to play Daniel Jackson for SG-1, Michael Shanks is classically georgous.

WHAT??? I take offense! With a capital O! T is a nerd, through and through, and there are no two carbon-dated bones about it! T's desires have ALWAYS been salaciously bent towards the cerebral! If the brain isn't sexy first, Teresa wants no part of it. OOH MY GOD! Of course I recall the spindly afore-mentioned pimple! Max (or as we knew him from days gone by,...John Louis Holechek Jr.). was a sore point between us for almost an entire semester of 10th grade geometry, despite the fact that walking he looked from behind like a popsicle stick split half-way up the middle for legs. Nations have started wars for less! But the sorest point of our affection was Cutter John, the wheelchair-bound hero of the original Bloom County strip. OH! That tortured, humourous man, with the 80's feathered locks, and the wry sense of humour! How we swooned over him, him and his bitter but poignant, political view. If ever a Geek-Girl there was, how much geeky-er can you get, than waxing affectionate over a TWO-DIMENSIONAL CHARACTER, whose interaction was no more than ten-point-type in a three-panel glimpse, and whose physicality was limited by not only a fictional wheelchair, but also (and FOREMOST) the tiny ink lines to which he'd been subscribed?
Cutter John was the first, nay, the truest, Geek-Girl Stud, that has been. Daniel is fine, but he's a poor substitute. Cutter John is the penultimate; the king. God Save Cutter John!

It's true. Cutter was the first, nay, the truest geek-girl stud that ever was. I can't even think about it it's too painful. Oh Cutter, Cutter, why must you elude me so?

Yeah. But even *I* thought Cutter John was the coolest thing since sliced bread.

And if Jeff Goldblum got your rockets firing, who did you find cooler in Buckaroo Bonzai, Peter Weller or 'New Jersey'? Hmmm? I rest my case.

Peter Weller doesn't do it for me. New Jersey all the way.

Although "Perfect Tommy" was of some passing interest.

Of course, the end of this conversation is when you pull out the trump card and point out that I married a REALLY smart nerd, but he also happens to be a 6'5" teutonic cutie.

And then I'll have to admit that you are right. I CAN be swayed by good looks. OK, I lose.

Strangely, I'm OK with that. :-)
