Folding, spindeling, and mutilating lauguage for fun since Aug, 2004

So, over at Amy's blog, in the comments, she made a derisive comment about my blog having "maybe three" comments on it.  As of that moment, it actually had about seventy-three comments on the front page...

Here's the link to the post where she made the comments.

But aside from the fact that Amy is "in error where the facts are concerned" between the difference between the numbers "3" and "73"...

I have to wonder, what are you all willing to do for comments, links, and assorted other attention?

I'm sure that anybody can get hundreds of comments by posting an article belittling a woman you don't know who died a tragic death after making numerous mistakes.  That makes an easy target.  Using insulting language against someone who is dead, and cannot defend themselves has worked for Amy.  She has hundreds of comments with people screaming at each other about whether or not it is "racist".

And then she got another thread going by "playing the racist card", crying so-called reverse racism by implying that she would not get this outrage if she said these things and wasn't white...in refutation of which is exhibit A:  Bill Cosby.  And he was much nicer, and didn't do it by beating up on a dead woman, and comparing her children to animals.

Legitamate criticism stings hard, and there are always going to be some people who object and retaliate.  But in addition to legitamate criticism, being an officious, mean, self-important jerk and publicly beating up a dead person who wasn't even a public figure, but instead a hapless and pathetic private individual will also get you objection and retaliation.

Which seems to be Amy's desire, so I guess...good on her?

As an example, she claims I said she was racist, when in actuality, I just said she was being "ugly".  By which I assume most people would understand I mean that she was being mean and uncivil.

When I point that out, she didn't address the point, but instead lied about me only having three comments on my blog (and that is important to the subject how?).

Well...to my mind, that is quite revealing.  She makes many high-minded claims at having "values".  I can see where her values lie.  So to speak.

[update:  I found her reply to my comment:]

"You came to my blog and screamed about me calling you a "racist"...which I didn't."

The truth is, you have about three comments on your blog and I didn't feel like commenting in an original way, so I just copied some stuff I wrote on my blog somewhere and threw it up there. I find you a lightweight as a thinker, and not worth my time.

You further write above: "The record stands corrected: You are a MISANTHROPIST."

I'm somebody with values, and who feels strongly that children should have daddies and all the rest I've said over and over and over again above.

Me again.  I added the emphasis in the above quote.  You gotta love it when someone who can't read a blog post and tell if they are being called a racist or not calls someone else a "lightweight thinker".

Priceless.

And the bit about values?  Ah yes.  She has very good values.  She denigrates the humanity of Catholic, Muslim,  random black women and rich people's babies equally.

"When I point that out, she didn't address the point, but instead lied about me only having three comments on my blog (and that is important to the subject how?)."

That is like supporting your argument by pointing out how many MySpace friends you have- who cares?! I CAN HAZ ChEEZEBURGER is one of the hottest sites on Wordpress with tons of hits and comments and it is nothing but stupid cat pictures. I would say the same things about the Daily Kos accept minus the cute cat pictures and it isn't on Wordpress..but I digress. ;-)

John,

Yes...but remember I'M the intellectual lightweight. :-)

You have maybe two or three comments per entry. I'm only here because you popped up in my technorati links again.

Your postings aren't worth reading, so I didn't read this one either. I skimmed it and threw up your third comment on it.

As for this silliness:

"I have to wonder, what are you all willing to do for comments, links, and assorted other attention?"

My blog is just a hobby of mine. I make a little money off the ads on it, but if I needed it to pull serious traffic I'd cover different subjects than I do.

I earn my living with a newspaper column in over 100 papers across the U.S. and Canada, writing magazine articles, doing the occasional TV appearance, and I'm publishing my second book. If I had to rely on my blog for "attention" or earning a living I'd be in deep shit.

Anybody who wants to see what my opinion actually is on this issue is free to come to my blog to check it out:

Amy,

"I earn my living with a newspaper column in over 100 papers across the U.S. and Canada, writing magazine articles, doing the occasional TV appearance, and I'm publishing my second book. If I had to rely on my blog for "attention" or earning a living I'd be in deep shit."

And yet, you are still a mean-spirited harpie who comes here to make comments, but can't be bothered to form a simple genuine response.

Or, apparently recognize the number "43".

So sad.

Wow! She sure told you what's up! Take THAT, Teresa!

I know! It's obvious my readers don't give a crap what I think, 'cause they don't bloviate about how greaat I am, and about how right I am, and about how the dumb black woman was obviously "selling her pussy" (yes, actual comment over there).

I guess I'll just have to settle for the kind of readers that don't comment a lot, but will help fund breast cancer research, help give money to distraught dog owners, and distraught ferret owners to help their pets get medical care, will show up to help people when they read here that they need it, will occasionally involve themselves in interesting but generally respectful discussions with people who are very different from themselves...ya know...the sort of stuff that isn't worth her time.

Huh. She has her own Wiki entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amy_Alkon.

Yeah. I'm intimidated by a syndicated "advice" columnist who pens articles of gravitas such as "Meating People", "Where There's a Will There's a Gay" and "Trauma Queen". I think she's cornered the market on punny article titles. As a professional writer myself, advice columns are the grilled cheese of the journalism world. Just because one is published does not mean that one writes anything worth reading.

She called TREES an intellectual lightweight?

Perhaps she was looking in a mirror as she typed that?

Hey! It just occcured to me that I'm a published writer too! And I've won an award! Now, how did that slip my mind? Oh yeah. I don't need to keep score quite that tightly in order to validate myself.

And GeekGoddess and I have screenwriting - and you join us in acting - on our resumes. Clearly we are Very Serious And Important People.

Or maybe we're the sort that don't have such inflated delusions about ourselves, and just live decent and meaningful lives while enjoying out various creative pursuits.

I just went to her blog - um. It's cute, in a pithy-snark-substituting-for-thoughtfulness kind of way. Actually, I was rather reminded of someone we all used to know...
Wednesday, August 13, 2008 5:24:14 PM (Central Standard Time, UTC-06:00)
Was it the generalized misanthropy, or was it the...oh, who am I kidding?

It was the generalized misanthropy.

:-)

I was reminded of that person as well.

Rick,

Wait a minnit. You left out the cello part I played in a real live recording, and Geekgoddess did voicework on that.

So. OUR hoity is much more toitier than yours!

So there!

(crestfallen puppy-dog eyes) I have been hoitied. *sniff* Then again, coming from a pair of hoities like you two...

...uh... let me not go there. :-D

LOL! I just asked Rocky how many books he's published, and he said "Uh...I don't know...17?"

It's something like that. I don't think he was counting the e-books.

There's no telling how many speaking engagements he's done over the years around the world, and with web-casts and such...

...well, apparently he should now be able to write mean blog entries about dead private citizens without anyone criticizing him!

I think the lady doth protest too much.

John,

Yeah, that's what I thought too when she read into my post charges of racism where there were none.

But what-cha gonna do? People will be people.

Well...you know that whole "it takes one to know one"... I would suggest that since she believes herself to be racist, she is quick to assume that other people are calling her a racist. *shrugs* You can't help it if she projects her thoughts onto others!

For all the other intellectual lightweights.
Misanthropy: a hatred or distrust of humankind.

Yeah, I had to look it up. You wanna make somthing of it, Amy? Now you can say her readers a intellectual lightweights, too.

Hell, I'd have never been introduced to Amy's blog (much less the knowledge that she was published elsewhere) if it weren't for Teresa. Hat's off to Rocky for sending me your way!

BTW - I own three of Rocky's books. I've written four "mission critical" CSLA applications. Although they are quite old now. I consider his early work on the project his "best stuff" ... genious.

I would comment on how you are not a lightweight, but being one myself (I'm not published, my blog is purely for my own consumption - zero comments), I guess it wouldn't meen much... <snicker>

Thanks Mark,

At the risk of becoming a mutual admiration society...

As for "lightweight" I've had more fun arguing with you than I've had agreeing with about 90% of the people I agree with!

Mark,

Also, thanks for the nice things you said about Rocky's books. He reads my blog entries, but not usually the comments, so I will point him at yours.

BYW,

Her latest post is abou how sombody edited her wikipedia entry to say that she has had a M2F transition.

http://www.advicegoddess.com/archives/2008/08/15/wiki_tranny.html

I won't make a blog post with a link, cause then the Technorati service would bring her down upon us again, and I'm sure she has more important things to do than mis-count my comments and keep me informed.

She claims that it is because they "didn't have the chops to debate her"

She's probably right...and that's really really sad.

On the upside...there's a nice picture out there for you guys, where she proves she isn't someone who has had a gender transfer by striking a diva pose in elbow-length gloves.

Another observation:

Amy is a big advocate of shaming as a force for social regulation.

I wonder if she notices that the more she is shamed by people who disagree with her, the more hardened and intractible she becomes and the more antipathy and hostility she shows them.

I'm guessing not.

Some people just don't know when to say when. They just can't admit when they're wrong - even if it's just a little.

I enjoy our disagreements, too.

As for Rocky's work, just tell him thanks. What he's doing is hard work, but he helps so many people actually *learn* what good software development is all about. I haven't checked out his latest CSLA "light" stuff out yet - I'm way too busy these days... but I will.

Mark,

He just loves his work so much. I think that when he is old, he might just forget to drop dead one day like Professor Binns in Harry Potter.

:-)

And YES, I AM trying to run the comment count up on this thread.

Because in the twisty-bendy cul-de-sacs of my mind, that is funny.
