"Real meaning of life...stuff" - Daniel Jackson

"How barbarous, to deny men the privilage of pursuing what they imagine to be their proper concerns and interests!  Yet, in a sense, this is what you are doing when you allow your indignation to rise at their wrongdoing; for after all, they are only following their own apparent concerns and interests.  You say they are mistaken?  Why then, tell them so, and explain it to them, instead of being indignant."

--Marcus Aurelius Book VI note 27

I realized that I had been neglecting Marcus Aurelius, and it does show in my approach to life recently.  Since I found this one instructive, I thought I'd share it.

I don't mind men (or women) pursuing their proper concerns. I just get grumpy when the purse my conserns.

On the other hand explainations get so tiring. Did you see my Dr. Vance response? *wheeze* That was a toughie.

So, I ask you Trees. Am I "quite the pit-bull evangelist?" And perhaps more to the point. Can I blame you? :-)

Ben,

In the sense of sinking your teeth in and not letting go, perhaps. But you aren't being agressive, just assertive. You believe he's wrong, and are telling him so, when he tries to duck the issues, you are not allowing him to do it without pointing out what he is doing.

I have to admit, I kind of like Dr. Vance, thouh it is frustrating that he doesn't seem to care much about the things we care about (like the dishonesty and anti-science political stance of the DI) But you can't make someone care about something.

I get the feeling that Dr. Vance is just sort of rooting for what he percieves as the underdog, figuring that it is preferable to rooting for the one that is going to win anyway, and that he sees as not a particularly good dog.

It's a confusing position for me to see someone take, but what'cha gonna do?
