Here's a link to an entry by Peter David.  Peter David is a fantastic writer, and his blog reflects that.

Anyway, this is a rather light peice that illustrates the chilling fact that our bright young intellectual eliet of the next generation are woefully ignorant of Monty Python.

Be afraid.  Be very afraid

There is hope! There is a nice primer on Monty Python airing on PBS next month (at least around here). One-hour shows, one for each Python, where they pick out their very favorite shows. The surviving Pythons put together one for Graham Chapman, too.

Sadly, my kids are too young to get it just yet.

I would like to say, however, that my kids watch "Free To Be You And Me", "Fraggle Rock", "Schoolhouse Rock", "The Muppet Show", "The Electric Company", and assorted Hanna-Barbera productions. And lots of odd little bits of other things.

Is it perhaps that the world itself is too absurb for most people to enjoy absurdist humor nowadays?

My guess is related to the proportion of stupid people to the general population (99/1 or so is what I generally assume). I'd be willing to bet most of the kids in that class would have had the same reaction if they were watching the shows themselves.
