Adventure Boy just came home and told me that he made the school band he auditioned for...it's called BANDTASTIC!  Yes, tyhe exclamation point is part of the name.  There were four tuba players who tried out...there were two tuba positions.  Adventure Boy practices two or three times a week...unless I hound him and hound him.  Now granted, he has a band lesson and a sectional lesson each once a week, and Jazz band once a week...so that's an aditional three hours of playing every week and he plays almost every day...but he should practice every day, as well.  Lessons are no substitute for practice time.

Anyway, a couple of days before the audition I was talking about his audition peice...and found out that he hadn't practiced it because he had lost the sheet, and never got around to getting a new one...so I told him he'd better get it and practice it...

So he practiced his audition piece for oh...ten minutes...the day before the audition.  To be fair, he spent a lot more time practicing his jazz band stuff, as the Jazz band concert was the day before auditions, and that's important too...

...but once again, the kids squeeks by on the minimum.  I'm glad he made the band...but part of me just knows that one of these days one of these things is going to have to bite him hard so he learns to take things a little more seriously.
