OK...so let me get this straight...

Dunkin' Doughnuts pulls an ad because one of the actors appearing in it is wearing a scarf, and some shreiking harpie has a fever dream that it looks like a Kaffeiya...even though it looks nothing like a Kaffieya...

But Ford Motor company can openly and outright say in their ad that free speech should be denied to 14% of the population because of their beliefs and it is hailed as a victory for free speech?

huh?

Folks, you can say whatever you want to but don't cry and complain when people recognise it as cynically manipulative bullshit.

A woman wearing a scarf and drinking iced coffe is hate speech, but calling for 86% of the population to use their superior numbers to deny the other 14% their right to free speech is "free speech"...

...I call Bullshit!  (I can still do that, right?)

grumble.

But there is a little place in Frogtown that is pretty good too...don't remember the name of it right now...that's where we go for our Ethiopean fix right now.

Let me know the name! :-)
In recent past we've gone to Blue Nile... and for a while Seward Co-Op had items from Dashen (sp?) but sadly no more.

Wow. I can't believe the radio station aired the ad. What idiots! I wonder if it would have been ok if Rachael had a flag pin attached to the scarf.

I wish the guys at Dunkin' Donuts had the spine (or strapped on a set - as my wife so politely puts it) to tell Michelle Malkin to stuff it...

Mark,

Depends on which flag, of course. With a scarf like that...you know, one with ISLAMOFASCIST FRINGS, you better have a GIANT American flag pin...safer yet, go with a brooch...safer yet, go for one of those giant novelty flag brooches that play the national anthem...it would be even more patriotic if you could power it with a gas engine....one with extra CO2.

If you accompanied that with a small and tastefull Israli flag pin (with a little sign under it that says "but just 'til Jesus comes")...

...I bet you could get away with it.

pcomeau,

I will try to find out...I'll make a blog post out of it, so you don't miss it.

But this puts me in a sticky spot...my dear old grandmother knitted me an afghan a couple of decades ago.

I had no idea that fringes were Islamofascist "hate coture"...but now that I know...should I cut the fringes off, or is it OK to have fringes as long as the rest of the item isn't Paisley?

God! Everything is soooo COMPLICATED all-of-a-sudden! 9/11 really DID change everything!

OMG!! I have an afghan that my grandmother knitted me, too! And it's patterned just like THE AMERICAN FLAG!! Stars and everything!

I'm so confused!

NOT! It's the rest of the world that's confused.

I'm fine.
Really, I'm fine.
Honest.
No really.
I'm fine.
Great, in fact.

The flag's fine. The fringes have to go. And remember, if your house burns down, run in and rescue it...or you hate America.

I'd hate to see you the target of Malkin's ire. That would be sad.

An AFGHAN? Your grandmother knitted an AFGHAN!? Afghanistan harbors terrorists! Grandma is a terrorist!

ALERT! ALERT! Geekgoddess is channeling Michelle Malkin!

Quick! Throw some water on her and drive the deamon out before she starts talking about how it was such a great idea to inter Japanese Americans in WWII!

Would it make the pundits any happier to know that one of my friends got a kaffiyeh (and the rest of the traditional 'Arab' dress) from a Jew in Israel? What does it mean when the Jews are wearing kaffiyeh? Just asking...

I wonder if Kieffe & Sons Ford knows that "by the will of God", featured so prominently in his ad, is completely analogous to the constant Muslim refrain of "inshaalla". It never ceases to amaze me, just how similiar Muslim* and Christian* cultures really are.

*Defined loosely, acknowledging that just as there are Catholics, Quakers, fundamentalists Baptists, Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons (among many others) considering themselves Christians, there is a similar variety of faith practices under the tent of Islam.
