"Real meaning of life...stuff" - Daniel Jackson

Ernie’s 3-D Pancakes has an entry about how the Vatican is enforcing copyrights against all of the pope’s words going back before he was elevated to the Papacy.

He points out that this is going to essentially erase everything the Pope has ever said and every will say from the major media, and will make the papacy disappear.

Possibly true…but if it is, it will also have the effect of possibly erasing every inconvenient issuance that he has ever made…

…and wouldn’t that be a blessing to “infallibility”.

Besides, the church can still disseminate its propaganda…it just can’t be quoted by anyone countering it (without the permission of the Vatican)…so the “faithful” will get their ears full, but the skeptical could be disarmed.

If used this way, it would be proof that the “Word of God” can’t stand up to the “Light of Truth”.

Of course, the Times article points out the lunacy of selling the word of God…

Kind of gives new meaning to the term “The Great Commission”.

Wow...I never thought that I would see this...if you really do believe that the Pope is an intermediary with God, then that would be the same as charging someone for quoting the Bible, wouldn't it???

Not to worry. 'Fair Use' covers quoting any copywritten materials, even divinly inspired ones, for use in criticism, mockery and so on. Of course, this will allow the Vatican to play the bully, and who can afford to face the lawyers of the Vatican when they launch the typical suprious copyright infringment lawsuits?

Cub,

Spoilsport.

My scenario is MUCH more entertaining.

Now, your interpretation of facts and projections of the future COULD be made entertaining...if you had said something along the lines of "Modern religions are so much more effcient. Look; the Catholic Church is just now getting around to doing what Scientology has been able to do for decades...what a bunch of slackers."

Now that would be entertaining.
