Finally!  A news alert from my hometown that doesn't have anything to do with the weather, a tragic accident, corruption, missing persons, or bodies being found!

Bemidji got mentioned in a sit-com on national television.

There's a Clifford Simak novel called The Visitors which is set in northern Minnesota and mentions Bemidji a few times.

Nah. It was a light-hearted sci-fi novel about monoliths that invaded Earth in order to chew up trees and make bales of cellulose. It was largely a device for Simak to show Midwesterners being confused and puzzled but mostly well-intentioned.
