"Real meaning of life...stuff" - Daniel Jackson

I can't wait to hear how the apologists for the worship of the almighty dollar (The Church of Wall Mart) make this OK.

Seriously.  Stealing the compensation a woman got for having her brain ruined?  They can do that?

Note to self:  Don't sign any F#$%$^%$^ thing without having a lawyer look over it first, and also, just for good measure, have it doused in holy water, buried in consecrated ground under a full moon, left there for a month, and then have a voodoo priestess clear it of evil spirits.

(And yes, I know a laywer and a voodoo priestess.  Although for efficiency's sake, I think I should find a lawyer who IS a voodoo priestess.  Anyone know where I can find some decent holy water at a discount?)

Then, leave the contract lying somewhere uninhabited, take off, and nuke the site from orbit. (it's the only way to be sure).

[Update:  They couldn't just be happy with Dead Peasant Policies?  Evil I say.  Wall Mart is evil]

Well, that is just one more reason for some variety of universal health care! I'd rather be paying more in taxes and be assured that I will be taken care of, should something horrible happen, than be paying insurance premiums to an insurance company that will do everything in its power to avoid paying out, and then seek reimbursement after the fact!

Karen,

I just don't understand what kind of a judge interprets a clause in a contract intended to "keep medical bills from being paid twice" as meaning that a woman has to hand over a judgement that includes compensations fro her lost earning potential for the rest of her life, medical care going forward, and compensation for permenant physical damage to her body.

You can be sure Wall Mart isn't going to do jack shit about any of THOSE things on her behalf! Yet they take the money she is awarded for them!?!

I guess, on the bright side, at least he's proven he's not an "activist judge".

This is sickening.

Even more sickening? That people aren't DOING A DAMNED THING ABOUT IT!

"Someone gots screwed by the Wall-Mart? Ain't that too bad. Now you hush up! Mommas gots her stories and E! channel to watch. An' it looks great, too, on my new TV I gots at the Wall-Mart!"

And yet people still look at me funny when I say "I can't imagine any future these days where the U.S. doesn't balkanize along religious, cultural, and educational lines."

Tony,

Too true. The only people who actually see any injustice in this are already boycotting them.

Everyone else is like "Woo HOO! A dozen tube socks for five dollars!"

And I thought that the biggest step toward the cyberpunk future in my lifetime was going to be the invention of the "Dead Peasant policy".

Now, your eployer can not only profit fro your death when you die...but they apparently have more right to your brain than you do as well.

This country DESPERATELY needs another McKinley, Teddy Roosevelt, and Taft. Until we have "trust busters" like that in office, things will only get worse.

Too bad she wasn't hit by a Walmart truck.

Lord have mercy, this is horrifying. I wonder if the Christianists ever actually read portions of thier Bibles that don't just deal with sex!

"Shame on you! you who make unjust laws and publish burdensome decrees, depriving the poor of justice, robbing the weakest of my people of their rights, despoiling the widow and plundering the orphan. What will you do when called to account, when ruin from afar confronts you? To whom will you flee for help?" -- Isaiah 10:1-3

MIT,

That's the OLD Testiment. It doesn't count. Except for the sex stuff and the 10 Commandments.

Jesus was a capitalist, you know.
