Folding, spindeling, and mutilating lauguage for fun since Aug, 2004

When I saw the headline "Not Holding Back: Why I didn't Redshirt My Kindergarten-Age Son"...I thought:

"Because he's too young to get eaten by a green slobbering space monster?"

"Because even though he's short, there's no guarantee that 'random surges in gravometric particle-waves' will go over his head"?

"Because Starfleet let one under-age ensign onto the bridge, and that is entirely enough?"  (BTW, Will Wheton is all grown up and is made of awesome)

Apparently, no.

Have you all heard about this?  Parents holding back their kids from starting kindergarten until age six so that they can be better at sports?

SPORTS?

ugh.

After a few paragraphs, I did feel like I was hearing about a program for fattening cattle for slaughter.

Elizabeth,

Welcome! Do I know you? Or did you just end up wandering in here from somewhere else?

Yeah...I'm a little weirded out. Not so much by the occasional parent who chooses of their own free will to start a child in school earlier or later for whatever individual reason it might benefit their child.

But the group-think here is incredible. I remember the "mommy-wars" and good lord, the last thing young mothers need is yet another thing that they have people tug-of-warring them on and guilting them about with regard to their kids.

WHAT?

Sometimes I *think* I'm jaded, and then the world surprises me once again.

A) Glad I haven't seen this in MN, yet...
B) To sound like a cad, stuff like this make me go thank goodness I only have daughters. Oh wait, there's a whole host of other crap I'll have to help them prepare for. sigh...

And yes at the first mention of red shirting I had Star Trek thoughts too.

Yes, you know me. Being a shy type who doesn't leave her last name in public fora, I'll just say that I'm Mary's friend from when she was dating Will, and you and I last saw each other about 2 CONvergences ago.

Elizabeth,

I thought as much. Good to hear from you again.
