My friend Karen is unhappy about the state of some Beta fish at a Whallmaart in Brainard, MN.

Here are some links to her blog entries on the subjects:

They are not keeping their fish in enough water for their optimal health and well-being.  Really, I think if your not going to properly care for the animals you sell, if you don’t have someone on hand to make sure that the animals are treated humanely AND that the products you sell reach the customers in good condition, then you should choose not to carry animals.  Really.

I listed the entries from oldest to newest.  One of them contains contact information for the ooalmart in question.

I just got a call from a manager at Walmart. He told me that he will make sure that the betta cups are kept half full! We win! (They don't fill the cups all the way since the fish need to have access to oxygen at the surface to breathe. 3/4 full would be better, but I'm going to take what I can get!)

That's really cool.

The Petco near me keeps their Betta cups 3/4 full. We've always gotten healthy fish from there.
