THE GOOD:

Rocky and Grasshopper have played each other to a stand-still in checkers with Grasshoppers new five-in-one magnetic game set.

Adventure Boy is creating a Manga masterpiece using his new Manga tutorial book.

I have just finished entering numerous cool quotes from the movie Serenity into my .sig file.  By virtue of my new Serenity collectable book.

THE BAD:

Later today Rocky has to go to Best Buy to find one of Santa’s helpers to help him with a little problem.  Santa brought Battlefront Two for Grasshopper on Christmas morning.  Grasshopper opened up the jewel case, he found that the elves forgot to put the game in.  Hopefully one of the helpers at Best Buy will be able to fix that little problem.

I am hoping that I will be able to start the New Year with a working dishwasher (Siemen’s dishwashers SUCK)…and not have the cost of repairs exceed what we paid for the thing.  We’ve had repair people out a total of five times this year, with trip number six scheduled for this coming Wed.  It wouldn’t be so bad if they sent cute guys, because then I could at least watch them work…but they don’t send cute guys.  More’s the pity.

MORE GOOD:

Still later, Rocky and Adventure Boy will go to a friend’s house to play Risk.  Rocky and this other kid’s father want to initiate the boys into the cult of Risk playing, and it must be done properly.

Still later, there will be the soon-to-be traditional viewing of the Serenity DVD.

Grasshopper gets to stay with me during the playing-of-Risk to pick up the house and shop for food-things and drink-things needed for the New Years party.

THE WEIRD:

My mother-in Law gave me R30:  The DVD of Rush's 30th Anniversary World Tour.  My mother in law gives me kitchen stuff, and homemaker stuff, and cutsy girly stuff.  Much of it is useful and thoughtful and I appreciate it.

My mother-in-law does not give brain-stoppingly-cool rock DVD’s.

Somebody’s been talking to his mother, and giving her good advice.

MORE GOOD:  Christmas day we went up to my in-laws for snowmobileing (not good snow…but the sleds ran and that’s what counts).  We ended the day with a HUGE bonfire and a snowball fight.  My Mother in Law was feeling frisky enough to participate in the snowball fight.  Adventure Boy got to drive the snowmobile on the lake by himself a little, and really dug that.

THE BITTERSWEET:

Later this week the kids and I are going to Bemidji to visit my cousin, who is home on leave.  Iraq looms large in his near future, and we want to spend as much time as possible with him before he leaves for a long, long time.
